Buy Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers For UK Protection
Looking to buy a dry powder fire extinguisher for your business, property, vehicle or specialist application?
TristarFS supplies the P50 dry powder extinguisher range from Britannia Fire, giving customers across the UK access to British-manufactured powder extinguishers designed for long-term performance and minimal maintenance.
The P50 powder range uses ABC powder, providing protection against suitable Class A, Class B and Class C fire risks. The P50P6 is certified to BSI Kitemark, UKCA, EN3, PED and MED.
Powder gets specified for the hard places (the yard, the van, the plant room, the unheated store) and those are exactly the places an engineer's annual visit costs you most to arrange. A P50 is commissioned once, checked in-house by whoever is already on site, and covered for a decade.
Why Buy A P50 Dry Powder Extinguisher?
Powder extinguishers are commonly selected where a broad range of fire risks need to be considered.
The P50 powder range is designed around ABC powder protection, with the P50P6 offering a 43A/233B fire rating and protection against Class A, B and C fires.
The P50 also takes a different approach to ongoing extinguisher maintenance. Britannia states that the range allows businesses to carry out their own annual maintenance inspection, with the design intended to reduce costs over its 20-year lifecycle.
Key P50 benefits include:
- British manufactured
- Lightweight composite construction
- 20-year lifecycle
- Annual maintenance inspection
- No external service required
- 10-year guarantee
- BSI Kitemark and UKCA certification
- Available in different capacities
Four sizes. One powder.
The P50 powder range is available in different capacities, so you can select the option appropriate for your premises and fire risk assessment.
The one that travels
A 2kg P50 powder extinguisher designed for applications where a smaller, more compact unit is required. At 2.74kg fully charged it's the van, lorry and small plant unit, rated 13A 55B with full Class C cover.
The workshop standard
The 6kg P50P6 provides a 43A/233B fire rating and uses ABC powder for Class A, B and C fire risks: the default choice for workshops, garages, forecourts and external plant.
The site unit
The 9kg P50 powder extinguisher provides a larger-capacity option where the fire risk assessment calls for additional extinguishing agent. 55A 233B, the highest Class A rating anywhere in the P50 powder range.
Another 9kg option
The 9kg P50-MO9 provides another powder option within the P50 range for suitable applications. Get in touch and we'll confirm whether this or the P50P9 is the right fit for your fire risk assessment.
Powder is not normally the right answer indoors.BS 5306-8 advises that discharging a powder extinguisher inside a building can cause a sudden loss of visibility and can impair breathing, which may jeopardise escape, rescue or other emergency action, and that powder should generally not be specified for indoor use unless a health and safety risk assessment supports it.
That isn't a fault in the product, it's what powder is for. Its home is external and semi-enclosed: vehicles, plant and machinery, forecourts, LPG and gas storage, workshops, construction sites, agricultural buildings and unheated stores. For cover inside occupied buildings, the PFAS-free foam range or the water mist range is usually the correct specification. We'll tell you which you need at your evaluation, including when that means selling you less.
Twin magnet-tested indicators
Two independent pressure indicators, verified in seconds with the testing magnet stored in the base. Needle returns to green. The unit is live.
HDPE wound in Kevlar®
An HDPE core wrapped in aramid yarn with a UV-protected outer casing. It can't corrode or dent, at 55 bar minimum burst pressure on a 12 bar working charge, which is what lets it live on a vehicle or in a yard.
ABC 40 dry powder
Mono-ammonium phosphate with ammonium sulphate. On Class A it fuses and swells into a crust that seals the fuel from oxygen and stops re-ignition; on Class B it breaks the chemical chain reaction in the flame itself. Non-conductive either way.
EPDM hose & powder horn
Fully recyclable at end of life
Built for the worst two minutes.
Your own staff are your engineer.
Check the indicators
Both pressure indicators should sit in the green segment. If either shows red, the unit goes back to us as your distributor.
Check the tamper seal
Confirm the seal and pin are in place. A missing seal means one phone call to TristarFS, not an engineer contract.
Run the magnet test
Wipe the unit down, take the testing magnet from the base and pass it across each indicator. The needle should move, then return to green.
Confirm the date
A colour-coded stud in the base gives the year of manufacture. At year 10, one manufacturer overhaul extends the lifespan another decade.
Log it
Record the inspection date in your fire logbook and mark the body. Done for another year.
A simple workplace check, not an engineer visit.
The annual P50 inspection is the same across the range, and can be completed and recorded by a trained member of your own team, including on a vehicle-mounted unit.
Two minutes per unit. Once a year.
Every P50 we commission (whichever model) comes with the logbook, staff walkthrough and written procedure for your fire risk assessment.

Where Can You Use A P50 Powder Extinguisher?
P50 powder extinguishers can be suitable for premises where Class A, B and C fire risks are present, subject to the appropriate fire risk assessment and product selection.
They can be considered for environments including workshops, warehouses, commercial premises, industrial locations and other areas where flammable liquids or gases may be present. The right extinguisher should always be selected according to the actual fire risks within your premises.
Workshops
Workshop environments often present a mix of combustible materials and flammable liquid risk suited to ABC powder cover.
Warehouses
Powder can be considered where stored goods, plant and external risk are present, subject to a fire risk assessment.
Commercial Premises
Suitable for external and semi-enclosed commercial areas where the appropriate product has been selected for the site.
Industrial Locations
Industrial sites with flammable liquid or gas risk are a common application for the P50 powder range.
Vehicles & Plant
Vans, HGVs, tractors and site machinery, where the risk travels with the vehicle rather than staying inside a building. What each one needs depends on its load as much as the vehicle itself, so the assessment comes first.

The maths does the selling.
The purchase price is where a steel extinguisher's costs start. It's where a P50's stop, and powder tends to be sited where an engineer visit costs most to arrange: spread across vehicles, remote plant and sites that aren't manned every day.
Ask before buying.
