The Britannia P50 Water Mist Range · UK Manufactured

Water mist fire extinguishers, UK manufactured, UK delivery Puts the fire out. Leaves the room intact.

De-ionised water, forced through a fine misting nozzle: a cloud that smothers the flame and cools the fuel, then leaves almost nothing behind. No powder to clear, no foam film, no service contract. Built in Norfolk by Britannia Fire, delivered and commissioned UK-wide by TristarFS.

Why composite

A powder discharge can cost more to clean up than the fire cost to burn, and every steel extinguisher on the wall is a recurring invoice besides. A P50 water mist unit is commissioned once, checked in-house by your own staff, and leaves almost nothing to clear up.

Water mist models

These are not the same extinguisher in two sizes. The smaller unit covers more fire classes; the larger one puts more water on a bigger Class A fire for longer. Which you need depends on the risk, not the room size.

P50WM2
2 litre · Class A, F & Electrical

The broad-cover compact

Rated 8A 5F: carbonaceous fires, cooking oil fires and live electrical equipment to 1000V, in a unit light enough for anyone on site to lift. The natural choice for homes, HMOs and rental properties, small kitchens, offices, server rooms and heritage interiors where residue is the real risk.

P50WM6

The bigger Class A answer

Rated 13A, with a 40 second discharge and 4m+ range for larger carbonaceous risks: storage, offices, communal areas, education. Safe on live electrical equipment to 1000V. It carries no F rating, so where cooking oil is part of the risk it needs pairing with a P50WM2 or a dedicated Class F unit.

01 · Indicators

Twin magnet-tested indicators

Two independent pressure indicators, verified in seconds with the testing magnet stored in the base. Needle returns to green. The unit is live.

02 · Cylinder

HDPE wound in Kevlar®

An HDPE core wrapped in aramid yarn with a UV-protected outer casing. It can't corrode or dent, at 55 bar minimum burst pressure on a 12 bar working charge: indoors, outdoors or coastal.

03 · Charge

De-ionised water, atomised

The misting nozzle breaks the charge into droplets fine enough to hang in the air around the flame, smothering it while stripping out heat. De-ionised, so it's safe on live electrical equipment to 1000V at 1m, with next to nothing left to clean up.

Step 01
Close-up of an industrial pressure gauge during an equipment inspection

Check the indicators

Both pressure indicators should sit in the green segment. If either shows red, the unit goes back to us as your distributor.

Step 02
Close-up of a fire extinguisher safety pin and intact tamper seal

Check the tamper seal

Confirm the seal and pin are in place. A missing seal means one phone call to TristarFS, not an engineer contract.

Step 03
Hand holding the P50 testing magnet against the pressure indicator

Run the magnet test

Wipe the unit down, take the testing magnet from the base and pass it across each indicator. The needle should move, then return to green.

Step 04
Close-up of a fire extinguisher with its inspection and date label visible

Confirm the date

A colour-coded stud in the base gives the year of manufacture. At year 10, one manufacturer overhaul extends the lifespan another decade.

Step 05
Member of staff recording an inspection on a clipboard

Log it

Record the inspection date in your fire logbook and mark the body. Done for another year.

In practice

A simple workplace check, not an engineer visit.

The annual P50 inspection is the same on both models, and can be completed and recorded by a trained member of your own team.

Where Can You Use A P50 Water Mist Extinguisher?

5
Premises types covered

P50 water mist extinguishers can be suitable for premises where Class A risk is present and a low-residue discharge matters, subject to the ratings on the unit and the site’s fire risk assessment.

01

Offices

An open-plan office of desks, chairs and computers

Furniture, paper and equipment are Class A risk, and a mist discharge leaves no powder for anyone to clear off a hundred desks afterwards. Suitable models are tested for use on live electrical equipment up to 1000V. Check the rating on the unit against your own assessment.

02

Server & Comms Rooms

Racked server cabinets and cabling inside a data room

Rooms where the clean-up can cost more than the fire. De-ionised water is used precisely because of what it leaves behind: as little as possible.

03

Schools & Public Buildings

An empty classroom of desks lit by a large window

Classrooms, corridors and halls are largely Class A risk. A unit needing no annual engineer visit is one fewer contractor booking in the school calendar.

04

Hotels, Care Homes & Residential

A quiet residential lounge and corridor in a managed building

Occupied buildings where a powder discharge would be disruptive to clean, and where the same specification is usually repeated on every floor.

05

Heritage & Sensitive Interiors

The columned interior of a historic public building

Galleries, museums and listed interiors, where what an extinguisher leaves behind is as much of a consideration as what it puts out.

01How does a water mist extinguisher actually work?
It forces de-ionised water through a fine misting nozzle, producing a curtain of very small droplets rather than a jet. The mist smothers the flame by displacing oxygen around it while the droplets absorb heat fast, cooling the fuel so it can't re-ignite. Because the water is de-ionised and atomised, it's safe on live electrical equipment to 1000V and leaves next to nothing behind.
02Which one do I need: the 2 litre or the 6 litre?
The P50WM2 2L is rated 8A 5F, covering Class A, Class F cooking oil and live electrical. At 2.8kg it suits homes, HMOs and rental properties, small kitchens, offices, server rooms and heritage interiors. The P50WM6 6L is rated 13A for Class A only, with a longer 40 second discharge and 4m+ range for bigger carbonaceous risks. If cooking oil is part of the risk, specify the 2 litre or add a dedicated Class F unit. We evaluate free of charge and specify the mix in writing.
03Why does the smaller unit cover more fire classes than the bigger one?
Because ratings come from what each unit was tested and certified against, not from how much it holds. The P50WM2 is certified for Class F cooking oil fires and carries 8A 5F. The P50WM6 is certified for Class A and carries 13A with no F rating, it delivers more water for longer on a larger carbonaceous fire. Broader cover on the small one, more capacity on the large one.
04Does it leave residue or damage equipment?
Very little. The charge is de-ionised water dispersed as a fine mist: no powder to clear, no foam film, no chemical deposit. That's why water mist is specified in server rooms, offices, museums, galleries and listed buildings, where the clean-up after a discharge can cost considerably more than the fire itself.
05Do they need an annual engineer service?
No service contract is required on either model. Both are designed for a simple in-house annual inspection carried out by your own staff: indicators, tamper seal, date stud, logbook. We supply the written procedure and logbook at commissioning.
06Are they British made?
100%. Britannia Fire designs and manufactures both units in Norfolk, England: each cylinder wound, charged and tested before it leaves the factory. Buying the P50 range supports British manufacturing.
07Do you deliver and install across the UK?
Yes. Next-working-day delivery across the UK on both models, with siting and commissioning available nationwide. Evaluations are free and without obligation.
